Key Responsibilities
- Advise on and have conduct of public law childcare files, including care proceedings, supervision proceedings, emergency protection orders and related court applications.
- Provide timely, practical and legally robust advice to clients on child safeguarding, care planning and associated legal risks.
- Advocate on behalf of clients in court where appropriate, or instruct and work closely with counsel.
- Attend meetings, court hearings and multi‑agency discussions, including those held off‑site and occasionally outside normal office hours.
- Advise officers and members with professionalism, discretion and political sensitivity, including in formal and public settings where required.
- Draft legal documents, reports, applications, statements and correspondence to a high standard.
- Support and mentor less experienced colleagues, contributing to training and professional development across the team.
- Deputise for senior lawyers when required and assist with the effective running and development of the service.
