Core Responsibilities – Application Assessment: Process, evaluate, and make recommendations on planning applications, listed building consents, householder planning applications, prior approvals and lawful development certificates.

Negotiation & Site Visits: Conduct site visits and negotiate with developers to amend plans (where appropriate), ensuring high quality design and adherence to regulations.

Pre-application Advice: Provide professional advice to residents, agents, and developers regarding the feasibility of proposals.

Report Writing & Committee Attendance: Prepare detailed officer reports and present recommendations to the Planning Committee.

Planning Policy & Law: Ensure compliance with the Local Plan and National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

Appeals: Handle planning appeals (where appropriate).

Qualifications:

  • A degree in Town Planning or related discipline
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of planning legislation and policies.
  • Communication: Strong negotiation skills, report writing abilities, and ability to handle confrontational situations.
