About You

We are looking for an experienced Planning Enforcement Officer to join our client's team. You will have recent experience managing a busy and varied caseload of planning enforcement breaches and handling multiple lines of enquiry under pressure. Your knowledge of the planning system, legislation, regulations, and policy guidance will be extensive.

You will manage your own caseload (100 cases), including investigations, site visits, assessing matters against law and regulations, and making recommendations. The role involves serving enforcement notices—evidence of personally served notices is highly desirable. You will also prepare appeal statements and, where necessary, represent the client at hearings, inquiries, or in court. Support and guidance will be provided by senior team members, and ongoing training and development are encouraged.

You should have experience dealing with the public and responding to enquiries and complaints. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle competing priorities are essential. Clear and accurate record-keeping to evidential standards is critical.

Occasional evening or weekend work may be required and will be remunerated.

Key Requirements

  • Recent experience in planning enforcement and serving enforcement/breach of condition notices.
  • Strong investigative and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to manage a large caseload effectively.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (pool cars provided).
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented.

Role Details

  • Home-based with regular site visits (12–20 per week).
  • Expected 1–2 days per week in Romford for site visits and office access.
  • Hybrid working with flexibility.

If you are interested in the role, please email your CV to beth@essentialemploy.co.uk quoting the reference number.
