Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Highways Inspector to join our Highways team. You will play a key role in maintaining the safety and quality of the borough’s highway network through regular inspections, monitoring, and public liaison.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspections of highway assets, identify defects, and raise work orders or defect notices.
- Investigate public enquiries, utility works, and claims, ensuring compliance with legislation and council policies.
- Liaise with contractors and utility companies to monitor works and ensure timely, quality repairs.
- Support legal processes by preparing reports, witness statements, and attending court when required.
- Participate in emergency response duties, including winter service operations.
- Assist in training new staff and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Ideal Requirements
- Experience in highways inspection or a related field.
- Knowledge of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently, including outside normal hours when required.
- Familiarity with inspection software and reporting systems is desirable.
