Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice on planning, highways, regeneration, compulsory purchase, and local government matters.
- Draft, negotiate, and complete Section 106 Agreements, Highway Agreements, Deeds, Licences, and other legal documentation.
- Advise on planning applications, planning appeals, enforcement matters, and judicial review proceedings.
- Support the Council's planning and highways functions by providing pragmatic and solution-focused legal advice.
- Attend and advise committees, member meetings, public inquiries, hearings, and officer meetings as required.
- Manage a varied caseload of complex planning and highways matters with minimal supervision.
- Instruct and manage external counsel where necessary.
- Keep up to date with legislative and regulatory developments affecting planning and highways law.
- Work collaboratively with planning officers, highway engineers, property teams, and other stakeholders to facilitate development and infrastructure projects.
- Ensure all legal work is delivered in accordance with professional standards, policies, and performance targets.
