Essential Consulting is currently supporting a major banking client with the delivery of a large-scale infrastructure and mainframe transformation programme.

Increase your chances of reaching the interview stage by reading the complete job description and applying promptly.

We are looking for two experienced IT Change Management professionals to join the programme, working across multiple technical workstreams and helping to coordinate and govern a significant volume of infrastructure changes.

We are onboarding at two levels:

  • IT Change Manager approx £500£550 per day
  • Senior IT Change Manager / Change Lead approx £600£650 per day

These are technical IT Change Management / Service Management roles rather than business or organisational change positions, so candidates must have hands-on experience managing technical changes within large, complex IT environments.

Please note, these are not Project Manager roles. We are specifically looking for candidates whose core background is within IT Change Management / Service Management and who have substantial hands-on experience managing technical changes through established change governance processes. Project Managers who have simply had some exposure to CAB or change processes as part of their wider delivery responsibilities are unlikely to be suitable.

The Role

Working across multiple infrastructure workstreams, you will help ensure technical changes are properly planned, governed, approved and communicated through the full change lifecycle.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating technical changes across multiple projects and workstreams
  • Maintaining change schedules/trackers and ensuring key activities and approvals remain on track
  • Reviewing change plans and ensuring the appropriate governance and controls have been followed
  • Working with technical teams to ensure implementation plans, runbooks, risk/impact assessments and rollback/backout plans are complete and fit for purpose
  • Coordinating and taking changes through CAB and ensuring the necessary approvals are obtained ahead of implementation
  • Supporting the planning and governance of infrastructure and mainframe changes
  • Producing clear stakeholder communications covering planned changes, implementation timings, potential downtime/outages and expected impacts
  • Supporting the management and escalation of issues arising during or following changes
  • Supporting post-change reviews and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) where required
  • Working closely with Project Managers, technical teams, Service Management and senior stakeholders across the programme

Senior IT Change Manager / Change Lead

For the senior position, we are looking for someone with extensive experience operating in a senior IT Change Management or Service Management capacity.

You will need a deep understanding of technical change governance and the full change lifecycle, with the ability to provide leadership and challenge across complex, high-risk changes.

You must also be comfortable operating at senior leadership level and able to take ownership during significant incidents or outages, confidently communicating with and providing updates to senior executives where required.

Key Requirements

  • Strong experience within IT Change Management, Technical Change Management or IT Service Management
  • Good understanding of the end-to-end technical change lifecycle and associated governance
  • Strong experience of CAB and technical change approval processes
  • Experience working with implementation plans/runbooks, risk and impact assessments and rollback/backout planning
  • Experience coordinating changes across multiple technical teams or workstreams
  • Understanding of incident/outage management, escalation and RCA
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of concurrent activity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sufficient technical understanding to work confidently with infrastructure teams and understand complex technical changes
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently without requiring close supervision
  • Experience within large, complex and highly governed technology environments

Previous banking or financial services experience would be beneficial, particularly given the governance and regulatory environment, but is not essential. Previous mainframe experience would also be advantageous.

Location

The roles can be aligned to either Sheffield or Birmingham and will operate on a hybrid basis, with regular onsite working required. xiskglj
