We have a vacancy at Syon Park in Brentford, West London for this role. Syon Park is a historic estate, open to the public, with a large car park, a number of successful businesses and visitor attractions, including a Garden Centre, a Hotel, a soft play centre, a trout fishery and a Grade I listed historic house and grounds.
You would be responsible for ensuring that the public areas look at their very best for all visitors and you will take pride in delivering high standards. Work will include:
- The collection of litter
- Sweeping leaves and gravel
- Tidying and cleaning visitor toilets
- Site maintenance
- Mowing, edging, weeding and hedge cutting
- General gardening operations
You will need to be polite and friendly and able to assist and direct our visitors. As part of the Syon team, you will be involved in a wide range of operations alongside the gardening team and also across the Estate, both indoors and outdoors.
Some machinery work will be involved, including hand tools, pedestrian mowers and ride-on machinery, but full training will be given. Safety of staff and visitors is a priority and full PPE will be provided. You will be expected to contribute to a safe working environment by reporting or removing potential hazards. A UK driving licence would be an advantage.
This is an active role, and you’ll spend a lot of the day on your feet so you should be physically fit, and you must be prepared to work outdoors in all weathers. This is a full-time post, 39 hours per week, with a morning start at 8am, although an earlier start may be considered in the summer. Working days are Thursday to Monday, so worked over weekends and Bank Holidays.
Areas to be covered include:
- Daily litter pick of public areas to include the Car Park, path to Snakes and Ladders, Brent Lea Alley, path to Duchess’ Gate, main drive
- Regular litter pick of other areas as required
- Cutting hedges and pedestrian mowing, with the option of some works with ride-on machinery
- Weeding, edging and general gardening duties
- Sweeping leaves and gravel using hand tools and leaf blower
- Keeping gutters, gullies and kerbs free of litter, leaves and debris
- Putting bins out for collection weekly and back afterwards
- Spreading grit during extreme winter weather
- Routine maintenance operations
- General janitorial and cleaning duties, to include visitor toilets
- Assisting with general gardening and maintenance operations on the Estate across all departments as required.
