We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Control & Instrumentation Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining the safe, reliable and efficient operation of critical business assets.

The role is responsible for providing control and instrumentation engineering expertise and assurance across both operational and project activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Working closely with a range of stakeholders, you will support the ongoing performance and integrity of existing systems while contributing to the successful delivery of improvement and growth projects that enhance operational capability and drive business objectives.

  • Primary Accountabilities
  • Respond to plant issues, leading investigations, risk assessments and required modifications.
  • Provide C&I input to HAZOP, LOPA and SIL studies.
  • Act as C&I authority for Management of Change, ensuring technical compliance and assurance.
  • Design, review and assure safety-related systems in line with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511.
  • Manage asset reliability through maintenance, inspection and obsolescence strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, design and business requirements.
  • Support turnarounds by developing scopes, budgets and providing engineering leadership during execution.
  • Lead C&I projects delivering safety, environmental and reliability improvements.
  • Provide C&I engineering assurance throughout the full project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning.
  • Prepare technical specifications, requisitions and user requirement documents, including Functional Safety and ATEX requirements.
  • Evaluate and select vendor proposals.
  • Manage project and plant modification budgets as assigned.
  • Support continuous improvement and business performance initiatives.
  • Act as the C&I technical expert, providing guidance, training and support to colleagues.
  • Develop business cases and funding proposals for C&I projects.
  • Participate in the C&I duty rota, providing out-of-hours technical support when required.

About You

The successful candidate will be a degree-qualified engineer and a Chartered Engineer, with formal training in Functional Safety and/or ATEX considered advantageous.

Experience acting as an Authorised Engineer within Management of Change processes is also desirable.

You will have significant experience in electrical, automation, control and instrumentation engineering within the oil and gas sector or a similar high-hazard COMAH environment, supporting both operational plant activities and project delivery.

A strong background in managing the reliability and performance of C&I assets, including field instrumentation, control systems and safety PLCs, is essential, along with experience working within and leading multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires a technically strong C&I professional with expertise in functional safety, ATEX, instrumentation, actuated valves, control systems and safety PLCs.

You will be a confident communicator, capable of building effective relationships with stakeholders, suppliers and contractors, and comfortable working across both technical and non-technical functions.

A sound understanding of project delivery, risk management, budgeting, procurement and contracting strategies is also required, together with knowledge of relevant engineering standards.

Experience in environmental emissions monitoring, fiscal metering or wireless technologies would be advantageous.
