We're on the lookout for enthusiastic General Assistants to join our fantastic, busy catering team at the Imperial War Museum North on a flexible, casual basis. As a General Assistant, you will be part of a hard-working, friendly group who all have the same goal - to deliver exceptional customer service to our visitors. Known as one of the UK's leading museums, IWM North is a striking, modern venue that hosts a variety of exhibitions and events, and offers a unique and welcoming environment for visitors of all ages.

Successful General Assistants are responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

  • Providing a friendly and welcoming service to all visitors
  • Assisting with the preparation and service of food and beverages
  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards
  • Handling cash
  • Supporting stock control processes

For events, General Assistants are expected to:

  • Welcome and assist all guests
  • Set up and clear down event spaces efficiently
  • Serve food and beverages as required

Shifts will vary between Monday to Sunday. Due to the nature of the business, successful candidates should be flexible and able to work evenings and weekends. This is a casual zero-hours role, so hours will vary depending on the needs of the business, on a weekly basis.

Our ideal General Assistant will:

  • Have a passion for delivering outstanding service, greeting customers with a smile and serving them with pride
  • Ability to work flexibly across both café and events, embracing variety in your role
  • Take initiative and make decisions that are right for our customers
  • Be an excellent team player with great communication skills
  • Have a desire to succeed in your role
  • Possess the ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrate exceptional timekeeping and reliability
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene and health and safety at all times
  • Have experience as a General Assistant or similar in a catering environment
  • Ideally will have experience working as a Barista, but not essential
