We’re looking for a practical, customer-focused Handyperson to join our Retirement Living team, supporting older residents across Nottingham City Council Housing Services. In this varied role, you’ll carry out a range of minor repairs and maintenance tasks that help people settle into their homes and live safely and comfortably day to day - particularly where they may be unable to complete tasks themselves.
Working both independently and as part of a supportive team, you’ll manage your own appointments, respond to service requests, and complete jobs efficiently - ranging from fixing fittings and unblocking sinks to assembling furniture and setting up home equipment. You’ll communicate sensitively with residents, keep accurate records, and ensure all work meets health, safety and safeguarding standards.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in delivering excellent service, and values making a positive difference in people’s lives. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to creating an inclusive, respectful workplace.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience of working in building maintenance and repair.
- Experience and proficiency in a range of general maintenance tasks including basic carpentry and plumbing.
- Experience of and ability to use the necessary portable power tools safely.
- Experience of assessing / inspecting general maintenance, refurbishment & construction work.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, on the phone and via electronic systems.
- Understanding and responsive to the needs of older tenants, especially those with disabilities or special needs.
Please ensure you demonstrate clearly how you meet the 6 requirements in your CV & supporting document.
Please note: a full driving licence is essential to this role. The successful postholder will also need to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check as part of the onboarding process.
Closing Date: 12th July 2026 (11:59 pm) - Please note there may be occasions where we close the advert before the closing date, and we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
