We are currently supporting a leading organisation in hiring an experienced Data Governance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to build and strengthen enterprise-wide Data Governance capability. This is a strategic and hands-on role focused on establishing governance foundations, embedding operational controls, and driving data trust, regulatory compliance, and measurable data quality improvements across the organisation.
Location: Hybrid working model – London UK
Role Overview
The primary focus of this role is Data Governance strategy and operational implementation across:
- Governance frameworks
- Data ownership & stewardship
- Metadata management
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and operationalise enterprise-wide Data Governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures
- Establish and support Data Ownership and Data Stewardship models
- Define and implement a Data Governance operating model including roles and responsibilities
- Embed governance principles into business and technology workflows
- Define and implement data quality frameworks, rules, controls, and monitoring mechanisms
- Develop and maintain data quality dashboards, scorecards, and KPIs
- Identify, analyse, and mitigate data quality risks and issues
- Implement and maintain data catalog, metadata management, and lineage tracking
- Ensure critical data elements are clearly defined, documented, and governed
- Improve data transparency, traceability, and auditability across the enterprise
- Engage with business and technology stakeholders to define governance requirements
- Support and actively participate in Data Governance Councils and Forums
- Drive adoption of governance policies across business functions
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders on governance best practices

- Proven experience implementing end-to-end Data Governance programmes
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Data Governance frameworks
- Data Quality Management
- Data Stewardship and Ownership models
- Metadata Management
- Data Lineage and Data Catalog implementation
- General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- BCBS 239
- Solvency II
- Relevant local regulatory requirements
- Microsoft Power BI
- Master Data Management (Good to Have)
- Exposure to MDM tools such as Profisee
- Understanding of MDM concepts including golden records and data standardisation
Experience Required
- 8–12+ years of experience in Data Management and Data Governance
- 5+ years delivering enterprise-level Data Governance implementations
