Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer with Mission Systems experience to support the design, development, integration, and assurance of complex, mission‑critical systems operating in secure and regulated environments. This role sits at the heart of multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, bridging operational need, system architecture, software, hardware, and assurance. You will work on systems where availability, resilience, interoperability, and safety are mission‑critical.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle
- Capture, analyse, and manage user, system, and sub‑system requirements
- Translate operational and mission needs into coherent system architectures
- Support mission system design, integration, and verification activities
- Define and manage interfaces between software, hardware, sensors, networks, and platforms
- Produce and maintain systems engineering artefacts (CONOPS, requirements, architectures, ICDs)
- Support integration, test, verification, validation (IV&V) and acceptance activities
- Work closely with software, hardware, safety, security, and operational stakeholders
- Support delivery planning, technical risk management, and trade‑off analysis
- Ensure compliance with security, safety, and regulatory standards
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer on mission systems
- Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle (V‑Model or equivalent)
- Experience capturing and managing requirements (system, sub‑system, interface)
- Experience producing system architectures and design artefacts
- Experience supporting system integration and verification
- Ability to work across software, hardware, communications, and operational domains
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and stakeholder communication skills
- Experience working in secure or regulated environments
- SC clearance or eligibility to obtain it
Mission Systems Experience (One or More)
- Defence, aerospace, policing, intelligence, or security mission systems
- Command & Control (C2), ISR, situational awareness, or surveillance systems
- Autonomous, semi‑autonomous, or decision‑support systems
- Sensor fusion, data integration, or real‑time operational systems
- Platform‑based systems (air, land, maritime, or space)
- Safety‑ or security‑critical operational systems
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) experience
- SysML, UML, or similar modelling approaches
- Experience with AI‑enabled or data‑driven mission systems
- Understanding of secure architectures and cyber considerations
- Experience with Agile or hybrid delivery models
- Familiarity with standards such as ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288
- Experience supporting bids, technical governance, or assurance activities
- Exposure to cloud, edge, or distributed mission systems
