Electrical Networks Manager

The Electrical Network Manager will have a broad range of knowledge across electricity distribution with experience of LV, HV and EHV networks, fault response, network development and policy setting.

As part of the Electrical Networks management team this role will ensure that these networks meet statutory and regulatory requirements by setting and maintaining policy, procedure and technical standards and providing Tier 2 assurance of our electrical processes.

This will be achieved in conjunction other members of the Electrical Networks management team who provide specialist knowledge.

Role Purpose

The Electrical Network Manager will lead a team that are responsible for ensuring that current and future networks comply with ESP’s standards, industry standards and legislation.

This role will ensure electrical networks remain compliant, resilient and operational.

By working closely with other members of the Electrical Networks management team, the team will engage with industry and regulatory forums alongside the Regulations Team to ensure that ESPUG complies with and manages the risk of regulatory reform and will develop and implement a strategy and action plan to ensure that ESPUG has suitable Policy to address the compliance of electricity networks.

A key member of the team with input into discussions and decisions regarding operational, commercial, and regulatory challenges.

Manage budgets and the financial performance for planned and unplanned asset management activities, ensuring cost-efficiency while maintaining quality standards.

Identify opportunities for cost savings and resource optimisation.

Input into the development and implement of strategic risk management framework for electricity assets, ensuring that risks are proactively identified, assessed, and mitigated.

Lead the response to crisis situations and network emergencies, ensuring swift recovery and minimal disruption.

Represent the ESPUG at industry forums, workshops, meetings etc. as and when required.

Understand sector risks and input into industry innovation and future energy scenarios.

Ensure safety & compliance requirements are met including retention of Company accreditations.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for

• Ensuring network interruptions are managed in line with ESP Faults response policies and procedures
• Support engineers in technical capacity across all voltage levels
• Lead on network emergencies
• Ensuring adequate Service Providers are in place to deliver ESPs Asset Management plan and respond to unplanned interruption and emergencies.
• Ensuring that the Electric Compliance is met for asset management activities, including Policy and Procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and ESP asset management requirements.
• Ensuring asset records for unplanned and planned maintenance are accurate and suitable to meet regulatory requirements and minimise risk.
• Provide technical advice to the wider teams to identify risk and impact of code changes, mitigation and development of an action plan to meet our obligations
• Auditing the delivery of asset inspection, unplanned and planned maintenance and directly managed activities.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including service providers, regulatory bodies, industry partners, and key clients.
• Reviewing ESPs electrical portfolio identifying asset investment to minimise risk to ESP.
• Assuring that ESP assets (all voltage tiers) are maintained appropriately, and that Service Providers produce a safe, compliant and efficient service.
• Report on Electrical Assets Health.
• Champion the integration of emerging technologies into new networks, ensuring that ESPUG stays at the forefront of innovation and technological advancements in the energy sector.
• Leading on network emergencies and outages.
• Support on maintaining ISO55001 annual accreditation and surveillance visits.
• Ensuring that the performance of Electric Network activities is adequately monitored and reported at appropriate frequencies to ensure compliance is maintained.
• Ensuring that progress, risks and concerns are reported to the Head of Electrical Networks
• Establish and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the performance, safety, health, compliance, and efficiency of electricity networks.
• Regularly review asset performance data to ensure alignment with strategic goals, identifying areas for improvement

• Understanding of the Regulatory and HSE Framework.
• Knowledge and operational experience of electrical distribution networks across the UK.
• Broad knowledge of the electricity industry Standards, Recommendations, Specifications and Legislation relevant to the construction and operation of electricity distribution networks.
• Computer Literate and data analytics.
• Brings an energetic and curious approach to problem solving. Ability to innovate and to embed continuous improvement and innovation through cross department collaboration.
• An ability to adopt a wider perspective than the immediate bounds of the job description.
