Overview

Erskine Stewart Melville are recruiting for an After School & Holiday Club Practitioner and Early Years Teaching Assistant to join the Junior School on a permanent basis from Monday 24 August 2026 (subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks). The role is part‑time, working 31.25 hours per week during term time (Monday to Friday from 11.15 am to 1.15 pm as an Early Years Teaching Assistant and from 1.45 pm to 6 pm as an After School Club Practitioner) and 26.25 hours per week on a rota basis during holiday periods as a Holiday Club Practitioner.

Responsibilities

  • Supervising and interacting with individuals and groups of children on a daily basis.
  • Preparing and organising resources for each day’s activities to provide a play environment for the children that offers high‑quality care, relaxation and fun.
  • Serving food, ensuring hygiene and dietary requirements are considered and getting to know the children to ensure their lunch is a happy, healthy and safe experience for all.

Qualifications

Desired qualifications include NC Early Education and Childcare, SVQ3 (Level 6) Children and Young People or Playwork, or HNC in Early Education and Childcare. Relevant experience working with children, with a kind and enthusiastic attitude, putting children's interests first.

Safeguarding and Working with Children

ESMS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Applicants must undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and Disclosure Scotland. All staff working at ESMS have direct access to young people; therefore all posts within the school are considered exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
