This role is ideal for a civil engineer with strong design experience who enjoys developing practical engineering solutions, leading elements of project design and supporting the development of junior engineers. You will play a key role in producing high-quality engineering designs, working closely with project teams and clients to deliver safe, efficient and compliant solutions across a range of water and wastewater projects.
As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will contribute to the delivery of engineering design packages across multidisciplinary projects within the regulated water industry. Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing design deliverables that meet safety, quality and regulatory requirements
- Identifying efficient and practical engineering solutions from project scopes and site visits
- Communicating design solutions clearly with clients and project teams
- Directing and supporting CAD technicians, junior engineers and graduates
- Preparing design risk assessments, reports and technical specifications
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant technical standards, professional guidance and water company specifications
- Ensuring project design changes are properly implemented and recorded
- Working in accordance with established design processes and procedures
- Estimating design hours and supporting project planning
- Attending and presenting designs at technical meetings such as HAZOP, ALM and KM reviews
We are looking for an experienced civil engineer with a strong background in water industry design and a desire to continue developing their technical expertise.
Essential
- Around 10 years’ design experience within the regulated water industry
- Degree, HND or significant practical experience from technician level progression
- Experience carrying out hydraulic calculations and preparing hydraulic profiles
- Strong understanding of clean water and wastewater systems
- Experience delivering infrastructure and non-infrastructure designs
- Experience working on outline and detailed design stages
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials and engineering drawing practices
- Strong IT and digital design capability
- Registered with a professional engineering institution and working towards chartership
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
Desirable
- Chartered Engineer status
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and supporting their development
