We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and develop our multidisciplinary design team within the water sector. This is a senior leadership role for a Chartered Engineer who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to guide and develop engineers, shape engineering standards and ensure high-quality design delivery across projects.
You will act as Professional Head for the design function, providing technical oversight, mentoring engineers and ensuring engineering solutions are delivered safely, efficiently and in compliance with client and regulatory standards. The Role
- Providing both technical leadership and team management, ensuring the engineering team delivers integrated design solutions to the highest professional standards.
- Directing, mentoring and developing multidisciplinary engineers, CAD technicians and graduates.
- Acting as Professional Head for the design function, providing technical leadership and oversight.
- Identifying and developing safe, efficient and value-engineered design solutions.
- Communicating engineering solutions clearly with clients and project teams.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant technical standards, professional guidance and water company specifications.
- Reviewing, interpreting and briefing the team on engineering standards, procedures and updates.
- Managing the production of fully integrated design deliverables that meet safety and quality requirements.
- Ensuring design outputs are delivered within agreed timescales, budgets and formal processes.
- Leading the estimation of design hours and resource planning for engineering packages.
- Ensuring design changes are properly recorded and controlled within projects.
- Driving the use of appropriate software tools, BIM and 3D modelling where beneficial.
About You
It’s essential that you have:
- 10+ years’ experience working in engineering design within the regulated water industry.
- Degree or HND in an engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status.
- Strong IT and digital design capability.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and design projects.
- Understanding of MEICA, civil and process engineering design.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
It’s desirable that you have:
- Experience acting in a technical leadership or professional head role.
- Experience developing engineers and supporting professional progression.
