ESHT Pathology is looking to recruit Pathology Assistants to join our Blood Sciences department to support Biomedical Scientists, especially on weekends. Applicants should have an interest in Healthcare Sciences and a willingness to learn new skills. Relevant experience in a clinical laboratory is an advantage. These are 6‑month fixed‑term posts based mainly at Eastbourne District General Hospital, with some services at Conquest Hospital, Hastings. Cross‑site travel may be required. The role involves working evenings and weekends on a rota, with variable shift patterns.
Responsibilities
- Work across Blood Sciences (Haematology, Blood Bank and Biochemistry).
- Support Biomedical Scientists in testing patient samples.
- Enter data into the laboratory computer system and use e‑searcher to identify patient details.
- Handle potentially hazardous samples: unpack, sort, book in, pack specimens for referral labs, prepare reagents, and perform simple analytical procedures.
- Conduct complex non‑interpretative laboratory procedures after completing competency‑based training.
- Participate in a training programme that assesses data entry, specimen handling, and procedural skills.

- Relevant experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
- Ability to work flexible shift patterns, including evenings, weekends and cross‑site travel.
