Job overview

The Infusion Service is a Nurse led unit which facilitates the administration of biologic therapies and other medications which require IV access, to prevent hospital admissions.

We are a dynamic team that currently provides a service over 6 days between the hours of 8am -6pm at Eastbourne DGH. The main patient cohorts are Gastroenterology, Rheumatology and Neurology; however, the service is developing and other specialities are beginning to utilize the service effectively.

Main duties of the job

You will need to provide strong leadership, possess excellent communication skills and be able to develop and support staff with clinical and professional expertise. You will also be expected to function effectively under pressure without compromising standards of care and professionalism. Knowledge of Infusion Treatment pathways for Rheumatology, Gastroenterology , Respiratory, Dermatology and Neurology patients with experience in administering IV medication including Biologics and Intravenous Immunoglobulins would be an advantage.

Qualifications / Training

  • Registered Nurse and hold active registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • Degree level qualification relevant to role
  • Professional qualification and training to lead the clinical team with relevant knowledge and skills for specialist area
  • Evidence of mandatory and statutory essential training skills, for example, Basic Life Support, manual handling, infection control, fire etc
  • Management or leadership qualification or training
  • Education and training qualification
  • Quality improvement training and qualification

Experience

  • Experience in nursing care, knowledge and expertise relevant to the clinical area within NHS or relevant health care organisation
  • Experience in the take charge role and be able to lead a shift in the clinical area, demonstrating the ability to manage the clinical area, lead people and deal with emergencies and queries effectively
  • Experience in leading a team or service change/QI project

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Professional clinical knowledge skills and skills that demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, develop and implement programmes of care
  • Skills to assess and interpret complex needs of patients and able to give expert advice and guidance
  • Clinical skills and competence relevant to role to support innovative, evidence based practice.
  • Ability to apply professional judgement and problem solve and lead discussions within the team to resolve complex issues
  • Able to support learners and clinical supervision of staff and lead on improvements within the learning environment.

Other

  • Able to manage the physical and emotional demands of the role, including moving and handling of patients, able to concentrate to provide clinical care, calculation of drug dosages and communication of distressing or unwelcome information
  • Flexibility in working hours and patterns
  • Full driving licence and access to a vehicle (for domiciliary community role) and ability to travel between sites
