ESG Rec are working with a leading building and civil engineering business operating across the UK and Ireland. They are currently seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Sustainability Manager to join their expanding Sustainability team.

Role Overview:

The Senior Sustainability Manager will report to the Head of Sustainability and will work closely with teams across the business, playing a key role in specific project leadership groups. The role will begin in preconstruction, where you will be part of key bid and tender teams, defining and agreeing on the overall sustainability strategy and approach. As the role progresses, the Senior Sustainability Manager will collaborate with delivery teams and the supply chain to ensure sustainability remains at the heart of our processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and establish project-specific sustainability requirements, including embodied carbon levels, BREEAM, WELL, NABERS, Passivhaus, EnePHit, and other sustainability initiatives. Ensure bid teams fully understand and incorporate these requirements.
  • Develop and support complementary sustainability strategies across projects.
  • Engage with clients, design teams, delivery teams, and supply chain partners to foster innovation, selection, and circularity.
  • Define and monitor project outcomes, KPIs, circularity, and metrics.
  • Ensure a cohesive approach to sustainability across all stages of the submission and delivery process.
  • Provide technical expertise and champion innovation in areas such as new technologies, waste management, circularity, energy/carbon reduction, water usage, responsible sourcing, net-zero building compliance, and more.
  • Simplify complex sustainability concepts, translating them into accessible language to demonstrate their value.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, stakeholders, design teams, contractors, subcontractors, and regulators.
  • Lead and manage a team of Sustainability Advisors.
  • Conduct regular audits and provide support to ensure that sustainability objectives are met or exceeded, both for individual contracts and across the company’s broader sustainability approach.
  • Support the supply chain to promote comprehensive, annual reporting, carbon reduction, and integration with ISO standards (ISO 14064, ISO 5001, ISO 14001) and the carbon reduction plan.

Qualifications:

  • A related HNC, HND, degree, or similar qualification is desirable, alongside or working towards IEMA membership.

Experience:

  • A successful candidate will have substantial experience in a similar role, either within a consultancy or contractor environment.
  • A strong understanding of the built environment, including construction and design, is essential.
  • Experience with 2-stage and framework tenders through to handover and post-occupancy evaluation is also required.
