Our client is a well-established specialist contractor operating within the aggregate, recycling and materials processing sector, delivering services across major infrastructure, quarry, rail, port and civil engineering projects throughout the UK. The business provides crushing, screening, bulk material handling and earthworks solutions, processing recovered materials into high-quality aggregates for use within the construction and civil engineering industries. They utilise modern plant and equipment to process recycled and excavated materials, supporting sustainable construction and reducing waste sent to landfill.
Due to continued growth and an expanding portfolio of projects across the South East, they are now seeking an experienced Heavy Plant Manager to oversee their fleet and operational plant activities.
The Heavy Plant Manager will be responsible for the management, maintenance and operational performance of a large fleet of heavy plant equipment used within aggregate processing, recycling and earthworks operations. This role will involve close collaboration with site teams, operations managers and senior leadership to ensure plant is operating efficiently, safely and in line with project demands.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and oversee the company’s fleet of heavy plant equipment including excavators, loading shovels, crushers, screeners, conveyors and material handling plant.
- Coordinate plant allocation across multiple sites and projects.
- Develop and manage preventative maintenance programmes to maximise plant availability.
- Work closely with site managers to ensure plant meets operational requirements.
- Monitor plant performance, utilisation and efficiency.
- Manage external plant suppliers, servicing contractors and parts procurement.
- Ensure all plant complies with health & safety regulations, LOLER, PUWER and relevant industry standards.
- Implement systems to reduce downtime and improve productivity.
- Oversee plant inspections, repairs and breakdown response.
- Manage plant operators and technical support teams where required.
- Support the procurement and introduction of new equipment to support business growth.
- Proven experience managing heavy plant within construction, recycling, quarrying, aggregates or earthworks sectors.
- Strong knowledge of crushing, screening and materials processing equipment.
- Experience managing large plant fleets across multiple sites.
- Excellent understanding of plant maintenance, servicing and compliance.
- Strong leadership and organisational skills.
- Ability to work closely with operations and project teams.
- Relevant technical or engineering background desirable.
