Reports to: Nursery Manager

Key Objective

To work as a member of the nursery team, showing initiative and creativity to foster an environment which encourages the children’s all round development and where high standards of care are provided.

Responsibilities

  • Operational
    • Be a reliable member of a team, working co-operatively and with flexibility.
    • Observe each child’s progress and report on achievements, looking for progression and continuity.
    • Keep records of each child’s day to day activities for parents/colleagues reference.
    • Develop excellent communications with parents/carers, encouraging them to participate in their child’s progress and development.
    • Supervise children at play (indoors and outdoors) and at mealtimes.
    • Formulate, operate and evaluate a programme of activities, suitable for the age range of children, following the EYFS framework.
    • Assist with the creation of a stimulating and attractive room environment.
    • Attend Parent meetings, be involved in fundraising events and assist with the promotion of the nursery as required.
    • Assist with the care, maintenance and security of equipment and toys within the Nursery.
    • Work closely with Senior Nursery Nurses on a daily basis.
    • Help provide an environment where children value and respect different cultures, religion, language and disability and ensure that toys and games reflect this within the setting.
    • Undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. preparation of snacks, cleansing of equipment and such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Manager.
    • Be a key person carrying out all related responsibilities in building relationships with a small group of children and their families.
  • Human Resources
    • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
    • Participate in all self-development activities, including appraisals.
    • Develop positive relationships with other staff working within the Nursery.
    • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
    • Be involved in out of hours working activities, e.g. Training, Summer Fair, Christmas Party and Open Days.
  • Health and Safety
    • Undertake a shared responsibility for health, safety and cleanliness throughout the Nursery.
    • Ensure the general cleanliness of the children at all times, this includes- noses, faces, toileting and clothing care.
    • Operate the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the bedding, nappy changing and food service areas.
    • Be familiar with all emergency and security procedures, e.g. Fire Procedures, routines for dropping off and collecting children and marking the register.
    • Be responsible for recording accidents in the accident book.
  • General
    • Adhere to the Company Policies and Procedures including attendance at meetings, preparation of reports and any other duties as required.
    • Ensure the Company’s Equal Opportunities Policy is adhered to at all times.
    • The post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. Such variations are common.
    • You will also be expected to undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the owners.
