We are currently recruiting for a Deputy Operations Manager to support the senior management of an established engineering operation, taking responsibility for engineering teams, customer projects, operational performance and project delivery. This is a varied position combining engineering leadership, project management, customer liaison, commercial responsibility and operational planning.

The Role

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will act as second-in-command and deputise in their absence, whilst continuing to provide technical and operational leadership across engineering projects and service activities. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and supporting engineering/project teams.
  • Planning and coordinating scheduled and reactive engineering work.
  • Managing projects from initial planning through to completion.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered to agreed timescales, cost and quality standards.
  • Carrying out site inspections and preparing survey reports and quotations.
  • Managing project costings and supporting P&L performance.
  • Liaising directly with customers and advising on engineering solutions.
  • Monitoring operational performance, utilisation and scheduling.
  • Producing project reports and Gantt charts.
  • Supporting contractual and commercial requirements.
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineering teams.
  • Supporting health & safety, risk assessments and site compliance.
  • Working collaboratively with supply chain and other internal departments.
  • Deputising for the Area Manager when required.

About You

We are looking for an experienced engineering professional who combines technical understanding with strong leadership and project management capability. Ideally, you will have:

  • Engineering qualification at Degree, HND or equivalent, or significant relevant experience.
  • Several years' experience within industrial engineering.
  • Experience managing engineering projects and teams.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of NEC3 contracts.
  • Experience working with Gantt charts and project schedules.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical installation and maintenance.
  • Experience with risk assessments and health & safety.
  • Excellent customer-facing and communication skills.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Full UK driving licence.
