Escape Velocity is looking for an experienced Principal Systems Designer. You are a master of spreadsheets, possess strong analytical skills, and love the challenge of interpreting large amounts of data to determine the right knobs to turn to give players a fantastic metagame experience.
What we will do together:
- Design and iterate on systems across a broad range of key game initiatives, focused on fun and engaging ways for players to spend time and money (e.g., battle passes, monetization frameworks, reward-unlocks, and related features).
- Collaborate closely with the Game Director, Design Director, Systems Design Lead, and cross-functional teams including product managers, engineers, artists, UX/UI, and data analysts, to develop systems that create best-in-class, player-centric experiences.
- Proactively design and optimize systems that improve player experiences related to earning and purchasing content, with a focus on healthy long-term engagement and monetization.
- Champion data-driven design, leveraging analytics, player feedback, and market insights to iterate on systems and enhance the overall player experience.
- Advocate for the player at all times, putting the player experience first when considering and making all design decisions.
What you will bring:
- A can-do attitude that is player oriented; systems design is technical but simplicity is often a player's best friend.
- At least two shipped AAA games where you worked in a systems design capacity on initiatives related to player investment, i.e., systems and features supporting how players spend time and money to earn content.
- Expert knowledge of off-the-shelf design tools, and expertise with Unreal Engine (UE5 preferred).
- Professional understanding of the many major metagame systems found in contemporary multiplayer titles, and a keen know-how for how those systems work.
- Mentorship skills that include truly caring about the career growth of those who work for you and around you.
- Strong creative and technical problem-solving skills.
