To expand the current team operating in the UK, ESA Engineering is seeking an engineer to support mechanical and technical design activities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical and plumbing design process across multiple project stages from RIBA 2 through RIBA 5
- Guide the technical growth and implementation of UK standards and best practices within the Group for mechanical and plumbing systems
- Expert design of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, with a focus on low-carbon solutions and thermal comfort for complex buildings
- Comprehensive design of domestic water services, above-ground drainage, and sanitation systems in compliance with BS 8558 and Part G
- Support site inspections, commissioning activities, and technical queries during the construction phase
- Oversee and review the implementation of mechanical and plumbing designs carried out by other branches of the Group
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and provide innovative solutions
- Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments
- Collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and safety regulations
- Review and approve technical documentation
Requirements:
- Advanced knowledge of dynamic thermal simulations, energy modelling, and Part L compliance checks using SBEM/DSM methodologies
- In-depth knowledge of UK Building Regulations (Part L, F, G, J) and CIBSE Guides (A, B, C, L)
- Mastery of Autodesk Revit MEP for 3D modelling and multidisciplinary coordination with architects and structural engineers
- Practical application of BREEAM and Net Zero Carbon frameworks within mechanical and plumbing services
- Proven experience in producing NBS specifications, detailed schedules, technical reports, and cost estimates
- 8+ years of experience in an integrated engineering consultancy or specialist mechanical/building services firm
- Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (BEng/MEng) in Mechanical Engineering or a related building services discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is not required; candidates who hold it or are working towards it with a recognized body (CIBSE or IMechE) are welcome
- Professional working proficiency in English is required; knowledge of Italian is considered a valuable plus for seamless coordination with the Global HQ in Italy
Software Skills:
- Autodesk Revit MEP for coordinated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design
- AutoCAD for 2D drafting and layout coordination
- IES Virtual Environment (IES-VE)
- BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud
- Energy compliance tools (optional but advantageous), such as iSBEM, SAP-compliant tools, or similar
