An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Export Control and Compliance Officer to provide practical, business-focused advice across a complex engineering environment. This role would suit an experienced export control, international trade or compliance professional with strong knowledge of UK export legislation, licensing and sanctions. You will be confident advising senior stakeholders, managing complex compliance matters and working across technical and commercial teams. Defence sector experience, knowledge of ITAR/EAR and experience using LITE or SPIRE would be particularly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain the Export Control Compliance Programme, acting as the principal adviser on export controls, licensing requirements, sanctions and relevant international trade regulations.
- Classify military, dual-use, software and technology against UK Strategic Export Control Lists, assessing technology transfers, end users, end use and destination risks.
- Prepare, submit and administer export licences through LITE, including OGELs, OIELs and SIELs, while maintaining accurate records and liaising with ECJU, HMRC and other regulatory authorities.
- Manage sanctions and denied-party screening, support customs compliance and advise on UK export legislation alongside US ITAR and EAR requirements where applicable.
- Develop policies and procedures, deliver compliance training, conduct audits and monitoring, investigate potential breaches and support wider ethics, anti-bribery, third-party due diligence and compliance activities.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in Export Control or International trade compliance.
- Experience within highly regulated Manufacturing or Engineering sector such as Defence, Aerospace or similar.
- SC Clearance OR Eligibility to pass SC Clearance needed.
Location: Manchester
Contract: Permanent, Full Time with Flexible working hours & Hybrid working
Working Hours: 08:00-16:30 (Mon-Thurs), 08:00-13:00 (Fri)
Salary: £ Competitive (dependent on experience)
Benefits: 7% Pension Contributions, 4% from candidate, 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays.
