An established engineering business is seeking an experienced Generator Controls Engineer to deliver control and commissioning solutions for generator and power distribution systems. This is a hands-on role covering system configuration, testing, and on-site commissioning.
The role suits an engineer who enjoys working on live systems, dealing directly with customers, and seeing projects through from design to final commissioning. This is not an office-only or software-only position.
Key Responsibilities- Design, configure, and commission generator control systems
- Configure and troubleshoot generator controllers including synchronisation and load sharing
- Read and interpret LV and HV electrical schematics for integration and fault finding
- Implement and test circuit breaker switching logic, interlocks, and protection schemes
- Support FAT and SAT testing of control panels and generator systems
- Carry out site commissioning and performance testing
- Produce technical documentation including I O lists, control philosophies, and test procedures
- Work closely with electrical design, commissioning, and site teams to deliver fully integrated systems
- Strong experience as a Generator Controls or Commissioning Engineer
- Solid understanding of LV and HV electrical systems and switchgear control
- Hands-on experience with generator controllers such as ComAp or similar
- Knowledge of generator paralleling and grid-connected or islanded operation
- Familiarity with G99 and G59 requirements
- Good working knowledge of electrical safety standards such as BS 7671 and IEC
- Comfortable working independently and on-site with customers
- Willingness to travel for commissioning and support activities
- Remote monitoring systems and industrial communications such as Modbus or TCP IP
- Ability to review or edit schematics using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
- Electrical safety or HV switching certification
- Experience with renewable or hybrid power systems
