An established engineering business is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to deliver end-to-end control solutions for power generation and electrical systems. This is a hands-on role involving design, integration, testing, and commissioning.

This position is suited to a Controls Engineer who enjoys being involved in real projects, working with customers, and supporting factory and site testing. This is not a desk-only programming role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, program, and commission PLC-based control systems for generator and power distribution applications
  • Read and interpret LV and HV electrical schematics for system integration and fault finding
  • Develop and modify HMI and SCADA interfaces
  • Configure and troubleshoot generator control systems including synchronisation, load sharing, and protection
  • Implement and test circuit breaker switching logic, interlocks, and protection schemes
  • Support FAT, SAT, and site commissioning activities
  • Produce control documentation including I/O lists, control philosophies, and test procedures
  • Work closely with design, commissioning, and site teams to deliver complete control solutions
What We Are Looking For
  • Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or similar
  • Proven experience as a Controls or PLC Engineer within power generation, energy, or industrial automation
  • Strong understanding of LV and HV electrical systems and switchgear control
  • Experience with generator paralleling and grid-connected or islanded systems
  • Knowledge of G99 and G59 requirements
  • Confident working independently and on-site with customers
  • Willingness to travel for commissioning and support
Desirable Experience
  • Generator controllers such as ComAp or similar
  • Industrial communications such as Modbus or TCP/IP
  • AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
  • Renewable or hybrid power systems
