An established engineering business is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to deliver end-to-end control solutions for power generation and electrical systems. This is a hands-on role involving design, integration, testing, and commissioning.
This position is suited to a Controls Engineer who enjoys being involved in real projects, working with customers, and supporting factory and site testing. This is not a desk-only programming role.
Key Responsibilities- Design, program, and commission PLC-based control systems for generator and power distribution applications
- Read and interpret LV and HV electrical schematics for system integration and fault finding
- Develop and modify HMI and SCADA interfaces
- Configure and troubleshoot generator control systems including synchronisation, load sharing, and protection
- Implement and test circuit breaker switching logic, interlocks, and protection schemes
- Support FAT, SAT, and site commissioning activities
- Produce control documentation including I/O lists, control philosophies, and test procedures
- Work closely with design, commissioning, and site teams to deliver complete control solutions
- Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or similar
- Proven experience as a Controls or PLC Engineer within power generation, energy, or industrial automation
- Strong understanding of LV and HV electrical systems and switchgear control
- Experience with generator paralleling and grid-connected or islanded systems
- Knowledge of G99 and G59 requirements
- Confident working independently and on-site with customers
- Willingness to travel for commissioning and support
- Generator controllers such as ComAp or similar
- Industrial communications such as Modbus or TCP/IP
- AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN
- Renewable or hybrid power systems
