The Design Manager will lead a specialist engineering design team, overseeing technical delivery, interfaces, commercial matters, and project documentation. The role acts as a technical authority within the organisation, responsible for developing team capability, ensuring quality, and managing budgets, risks, and contract variations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary client contact and coordinate project opportunities.
- Lead and manage the team to deliver high-quality work on time and to required standards.
- Oversee and approve design checks, reviews, constructability assessments, and technical sign-off.
- Ensure team competence, compliance with UK regulations, and adherence to CDM2015.
- Manage risk, including HAZOP / HAZID / HAZAN activities, and ensure construction / operational needs are met in designs.
- Apply project management techniques for accurate forecasting, programming, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.
- Contribute to the development and improvement of quality systems and processes.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering.
- Chartered Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of the UK Energy sector and DNO clients.
- Proven multidisciplinary project management and commercial understanding.
- Experience with CDM2015 and health & safety responsibilities.
- Proficient in Autodesk and MS365.
- Strong communication skills and experience preparing tenders / proposals.
