We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing team. This role will involve leading electrical design projects and supporting the development of a high-performing electrical design team. You will play a key role in delivering HV and MV design solutions across sectors such as Substations, Renewable Energy (Solar, Wind), and Battery Storage systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client-facing role, representing Powercomm in technical discussions.
  • Lead electrical design projects from concept through to completion.
  • Prepare detailed design reports, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
  • Liaise with Clients, Utilities (e.g., EirGrid/ESB), and Local Authorities.
  • Provide technical leadership on HV/MV systems including substations, transformers, switchgear, and protection schemes.
  • Mentor and support Graduate and Junior Engineers, reviewing and approving their work.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with post-graduate design experience in an engineering consultancy or similar environment.
  • Strong experience in HV/MV electrical design, particularly in substations, power distribution, protection systems, and grid connections.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of electrical infrastructure design including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and control systems.
  • Proven ability to manage design documentation, including reports, calculations, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software such as EPLAN & AutoCAD.
  • Highly motivated with strong awareness of health & safety, quality, and environmental considerations.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to team development.
  • 5+ years relevant experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience in renewable energy projects (Solar, Wind, BESS).
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, automation, and protection schemes.
  • Knowledge of BIM and digital engineering processes.
  • Experience working with utilities such as EirGrid or ESB Networks.
