Lead and manage all aspects of primary engineering from project initiation through to as-built documentation.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Review HV design documentation in accordance with applicable specifications and ensure the completion of relevant design deliverables.

Oversee the development of design documentation including Design Intent Documents (DID) and Functional Design Specifications (FDS).

Submit complete design packages for design audits and ensure compliance with formal change management processes.

Attend and actively contribute to design review meetings and hazard identification reviews.

Issue final certified design packages and coordinate formal design compliance documentation.

Responsible for managing primary engineering scope within schedule, budget, and risk frameworks, including forecasting and change management.

Provide solutions for substation configurations, including single-line diagrams, layout planning, technical drawings, and supporting documentation based on applicable standards and project requirements.

Prepare equipment specifications, request-for-quotation (RFQ) packages, and evaluate supplier documentation to ensure technical compliance.

Support site execution teams with technical input during the construction and commissioning phases.

Carry out technical calculations, bills of quantities, and equipment schedules.

Review supplier designs and factory acceptance test plans; attend FATs and other key verification activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in substation design and engineering, ideally with a background in EHV/HV AIS and GIS substation projects.

Certifications & Skills:

  • Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) for HV plant or equivalent authorization under national regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CAD software, particularly MicroStation and AutoCAD.

Desired Skills and Experience:

Lead and manage all aspects of primary engineering from project initiation through to as-built documentation, ensuring alignment with project specifications, industry standards, and internal procedures for quality, safety, and compliance.

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including internal engineering groups, civil and secondary engineers, equipment vendors, and external design partners (both local and remote).

Participate in technical discussions with clients, respond to site queries, and ensure consistency from design through to construction and final handover.

Contribute to tendering activities by developing technical concepts, preparing documentation, and supporting bid strategies.

Additional Qualifications & Experience:

  • Familiarity with industry standards and specifications for high-voltage electrical infrastructure in the UK or comparable markets.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or actively working toward chartered registration.
  • Expertise in substation primary design including equipment layout, grounding and lightning protection, steelwork interfaces, transformers, switchgear, and cable systems.
  • Strong understanding of HV/MV cable sizing, earthing system calculations, and system integration.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a cross-functional and multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 25%) and work across both office and site-based environments.
  • Results-driven, collaborative, and proactive approach to problem-solving and delivery.
