We are looking for a Lead SCADA Engineer to take ownership of SCADA systems across utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in the UK. This role will focus on the technical leadership, integration, and delivery of SCADA systems, ensuring alignment with contractual, operational, and grid compliance requirements. You will act as the key interface between SCADA providers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders, driving coordination and successful system delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical management of the BoP SCADA solution provider, ensuring all contract requirements are met
- Lead technical due diligence and integration of the BESS SCADA system (including EMS/Universe platforms), ensuring compliance with project specifications
- Develop and finalise:
- SCADA architecture
- Interface schedules
- Control and operating philosophies
- Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- Review and sign off Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) for SCADA systems
- Attend and support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) where required
- Work closely with subcontractors, internal teams, and external stakeholders to coordinate system design and integration
- Lead weekly coordination and integration meetings to ensure timely and efficient project delivery
- Oversee system integration across BESS components, including inverters, BMS, EMS, and grid interfaces
- Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and handover phases
About You
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related discipline
- Strong experience delivering SCADA systems within BESS, renewables, or power infrastructure projects
- Proven ability to manage SCADA vendors and system integrators
- Deep understanding of SCADA architectures and industrial communication protocols (e.g. IEC 61850, DNP3, Modbus, OPC)
- Experience developing functional specifications and control philosophies
- Strong stakeholder management and coordination skills
- Ability to lead technical discussions and drive project outcomes
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable Experience
- Direct experience working on utility-scale BESS projects
- Familiarity with UK Grid Code and DNO requirements
- Experience with EMS platforms and system integration (e.g. Universe or equivalent)
- Knowledge of cybersecurity standards (e.g. IEC 62443)
