Our client is looking for a CAD Technician to support the delivery of substation and utility infrastructure projects. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong AutoCAD background who wants to develop further within a growing engineering environment in the power and energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce accurate civil and structural CAD drawings for substation and utility infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and update general arrangement drawings, foundation and footing details, steelwork and gantry layouts, trenches, ducting and drainage drawings, and site layouts and grading plans.
  • Support the production and maintenance of drawing registers and document control processes.
  • Assist with design modifications and revisions following engineer and client feedback.
  • Work closely with civil, structural, and electrical engineering teams throughout project delivery.
  • Support the transition and development of projects into Revit and 3D modelling environments.
  • Interpret engineering sketches, technical specifications, and survey information to produce detailed drawings.
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with industry and client drafting standards.
  • Attend site visits and provide project support where required.

Experience

  • 2‑7 years of experience within CAD drafting/design, ideally in civil or structural engineering.
  • Previous experience working on substation projects, transmission & distribution projects, or other utility/infrastructure projects (highly advantageous).
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (essential).
  • Experience with Revit, MicroStation or other 3D/CAD modelling software advantageous.
  • Good understanding of civil and structural drafting standards and detailing practices.
  • Knowledge of concrete detailing, steel structure detailing, foundations, pedestals, trenches and structural layouts.
  • Familiarity with substation layouts and industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and utility specifications.
  • Ability to manage drawing revisions and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Comfortable interpreting engineering mark‑ups and design changes.
