Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, a well-established and forward-thinking Mechanical Services and HVAC specialist is recruiting a Mechanical Estimator to support the ongoing development of its Projects Department. This is a newly created role and has been specifically designed for hands-on, technically strong Engineers from a Commercial Heating, Gas, HVAC, or Mechanical Services background who are ready to take the next step in their career, moving into an office-based role while fully utilising their on-site knowledge, problem-solving ability, and technical experience.
Our client is keen to invest in the right person and develop them into a highly capable estimator. Rather than looking for a career estimator, they are seeking someone who understands how projects actually work on site and wants to apply that knowledge to larger-scale projects, commercial decision-making, and business growth. This is a genuinely exciting time to join a growing specialist business, offering long-term career development, increased autonomy, and the opportunity to be part of something bigger as the company continues to scale.
Job purpose: The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive cost estimates for HVAC and mechanical services projects, supporting the bid process and ensuring projects are priced correctly, profitably, and realistically based on real-world site experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Pricing HVAC and mechanical services projects from drawings and specifications
- Using site experience to assess labour, materials, and buildability
- Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing
- Supporting tender submissions and bid packages
- Providing cost input to Senior Management once projects are secured
- Attending site visits and handovers where required
Essential Requirements:
- Background as a hands-on Engineer within Commercial Heating, HVAC, Gas, or Mechanical Services
- Proven on-site experience delivering commercial or industrial mechanical/HVAC work
- Strong technical understanding of mechanical building services systems and installations
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and schematics
- Practical understanding of labour, materials, sequencing, and buildability
- Commercial awareness and an interest in costing, pricing, and project profitability
- Desire to transition into an office-based estimating role while continuing to use technical expertise
- Strong attention to detail with a logical, methodical approach to work
- Confident communicator, able to liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Proficient with basic IT systems (Excel, email, estimating or project software)
- Full UK driving licence (for site visits as required)
