SENIOR QUANTITY SURVEYOR – M&E / BUILDING SERVICES Fareham | Hybrid Working | £70,000+ DOE + £6,000 Car Allowance We are working with an established and growing building services contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Fareham. This is a newly created position offering an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor to have a genuine impact on the commercial development and performance of the business. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial management of allocated M&E / building services projects from pre-construction through to final account. Working closely with Project Managers, Estimating, Procurement and Finance, you will play a key role in protecting margins, maximising revenue and ensuring projects are commercially successful. THE ROLE The Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of allocated projects throughout their lifecycle, including reviewing project budgets, cost plans and commercial reporting, producing accurate Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), forecasting project profitability and cashflow, and monitoring cost to complete. You will work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to maximise project efficiency and profitability, identify commercial risks and prevent margin erosion. You will also take ownership of variations and change control, ensuring changes are identified, accurately priced, properly substantiated and recovered in accordance with contractual requirements. The role will involve administering main contracts and subcontract agreements, preparing contractual notices, maintaining commercial records, supporting valuations and claims, and assisting with dispute avoidance and resolution. You will also be involved in subcontractor and supplier procurement, package analysis, commercial negotiations, subcontractor account management, monthly applications for payment, client valuations and cashflow forecasting. A key part of the role will be preparing, negotiating and agreeing final accounts with both clients and subcontractors, ensuring projects are commercially closed out in a timely and robust manner. ABOUT YOU We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong background in M&E, building services or a closely related construction environment. You will ideally hold a degree in Quantity Surveying or have equivalent commercial experience, with proven experience in contract administration, commercial management, variations, valuations, forecasting, CVRs and final accounts. Experience working closely with Project Managers to maximise contract efficiency, protect revenue and improve project profitability is essential. Strong contractual knowledge is required, ideally including NEC and JCT, with experience of bespoke contracts, DEFCON or MOD projects being advantageous. The successful candidate will be commercially minded, proactive and confident enough to challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to improve the commercial performance of the business. THE OPPORTUNITY This is more than a traditional Quantity Surveyor position. The company is looking for someone dynamic who wants to make their mark and help develop the commercial side of the business. You will have the opportunity to influence commercial processes, improve project performance, support and develop less experienced members of the team and work closely with senior management and operational teams. This would suit an experienced QS who is looking for greater responsibility and the opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth of a successful building services business. PACKAGE Salary of £70,000+ depending on experience, plus a £6,000 car allowance. The role also offers 23 days holiday plus bank holidays and hybrid working. LOCATION The position is based from the company's Fareham office, with hybrid working available. Candidates must be able to commute to Fareham when required and be comfortable working collaboratively with Project Managers, Operations, Estimating, Procurement and Finance. If you are an experienced Quantity Surveyor from an M&E or building services background and are looking for a role where you can take genuine ownership of commercial performance and help shape the future of a growing business, we would be keen to hear from you.
