We are seeking an experienced UK Tax Director to join EY's market‑leading US/UK Cross‑Border Private Client team. This role is predominately UK‑focused, with responsibility for leading the delivery of complex UK tax compliance and advisory work for high‑net‑worth individuals, entrepreneurs, family offices, and internationally mobile clients with US connections. You will own a significant client portfolio, act as a trusted adviser to clients and internal stakeholders, and play a key role in driving team performance, technical excellence, risk management, and business growth.

Responsibilities

  • UK tax compliance and advisory
  • Residence, domicile and remittance basis planning
  • International and cross‑border structuring
  • Transactions, wealth optimisation and succession planning
  • Lead and manage a portfolio of clients with complex UK tax affairs, ensuring exceptional client service, technical accuracy and timely delivery
  • Act as the UK tax technical lead on engagements, providing practical, commercial advice aligned with client objectives
  • Review and sign off complex UK tax returns and advisory outputs, maintaining EY's high standards of quality, risk management and governance
  • Identify UK and cross‑border tax issues (including IHT, trusts, estate and succession planning, and international structuring) and coordinate with relevant specialists
  • Drive business development through client relationships, referrals, and collaboration across the wider EY Tax practice
  • Take ownership of billing, WIP, recoveries and overall financial performance across your client portfolio
  • Lead, coach and mentor managers and junior staff, supporting performance, progression and retention
  • Contribute to strategic and operational management of the team, including resourcing, training, and people initiatives
  • Act as a visible role model for EY values, fostering a positive, inclusive, and high‑performing team culture

Qualifications

  • Significant experience at Director (or equivalent) level within professional practice
  • Deep technical expertise in UK private client tax, with experience signing off complex UK returns and advisory work
  • Strong understanding of non‑dom, residence and internationally mobile client issues
  • Proven ability to manage senior client relationships with confidence, credibility and professionalism
  • Commercial awareness with a track record of identifying and converting opportunities into work
  • Experience managing financial performance, including billing, recoveries and portfolio profitability
  • Strong leadership capability, with a commitment to developing high‑performing teams
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to influence, negotiate and challenge where appropriate
  • Highly organised, resilient, and able to manage multiple complex priorities
