We're seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to join our Private Client team, managing a diverse portfolio of clients with complex US and/or UK tax affairs. You'll play a key role in delivering outstanding client service across compliance and advisory matters, developing junior team members, and supporting business growth through effective portfolio management. This role offers exposure to challenging advisory work, collaboration with Directors and the wider EY Private network, and excellent opportunities for progression to Director and beyond, along with potential secondments across EY.
Responsibilities
- Manage an allocated portfolio of clients, ensuring a consistently high level of service.
- Plan, delegate, and oversee work effectively to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards.
- Lead the billing process and collaborate with the Credit Control team to ensure prompt payment of invoices.
- Conduct complex final reviews to ensure accuracy, manage risk, and uphold quality.
- Sign off completed tax returns as agreed with senior staff.
- Demonstrate a broad understanding of related tax areas (e.g., estate/gift tax, IHT, corporate tax) and identify when to engage internal specialists.
- Provide ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to junior team members.
- Support the technical, personal, and professional development of allocated staff, managing performance issues with HR guidance when needed.
- Ensure all compliance work meets EY's high standards, minimising risk and maintaining excellent client service.
- Act as a role model for EY's values, maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications
- ATT qualified and authorised to practice US tax (EA or CPA). CTA qualification desirable but not essential.
- Significant tax experience at a similar level within a professional practice.
- Proven ability to deliver high-quality client service, both in person and via phone/email.
- Strong technical experience across a full range of client tax requirements, including signing off US/UK tax returns.
- Proven experience advising non-domiciled individuals and high-net-worth clients.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to manage complex workstreams and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure.
- Experienced in billing and managing financial performance.
- Skilled at leading, developing, and managing junior team members.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work well under pressure.
- Strong numerical and analytical abilities with sound IT skills.
- Confident in managing client relationships, including the ability to influence and respectfully challenge when needed.
- A proactive team player who also works effectively independently.
