The financial services industry continues to undergo a period of unparalleled change. Since the financial crisis, banks and financial institutions have been subject to more stringent regulation, increased supervision and ongoing global economic instability. These changes have come at a cost, prompting institutions to re-evaluate traditional ways of doing business. At the same time, rapid technological advances, including disruptive technologies and digital innovation, are increasing the pressure to maintain a competitive edge, adapt quickly and improve profitability.
The FinTech Lab gives financial services organisations direct access to the latest developments in agentic systems and artificial intelligence, helping them rapidly explore, validate and bring high-value business opportunities to market. We are looking for experienced software engineers who are aware of emerging trends and excited to help clients innovate.
Your key responsibilities:
- Challenge traditional delivery methods and introduce faster, more automated ways of building software.
- Define and maintain engineering standards across the Lab, including quality, security, testing and production-readiness.
- Work with clients and internal stakeholders to identify, assess and prioritise high-value opportunities for emerging technology.
- Architect AI-enabled solutions that connect data, tools and user intent to automate complex workflows.
- Create intuitive interfaces and human-in-the-loop workflows for supervising and improving AI-enabled processes.
- Share reusable patterns, lessons learned and technology best practices across EY.
- Manage multiple workstreams effectively through clear planning, prioritisation and communication.
Skills and attributes for success:
- A proven record of identifying and implementing emerging technologies.
- A strong interest and excitement about new business opportunities in the age of AI.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with financial services clients and start-ups, including non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong client engagement skills to oversee implementation progress and ensure client satisfaction, with the ability and motivation to build stakeholder understanding and buy-in.
- Ability to combine engineering judgement with user-centred thinking, ensuring solutions are technically robust, intuitive and easy to adopt.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
To qualify for the role, you must have:
- 4+ years of experience in software engineering and/or technology consulting.
- Experience in at least two modern programming languages such as TypeScript, Python, Java or Go.
- Proven ability to architect, build and deploy complex agentic systems, including agent-to-agent communication.
- Ability to build auditable agentic systems that can be traced and observed.
- Expertise in developing APIs and microservices.
- Good understanding of frontend technologies such as React and Next.js.
- Experience managing at least one cloud platform, such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
- Experience working with AI development frameworks such as LangChain, foundation model platforms, vector databases, structured outputs, tracing and evaluation techniques.
- Experience applying modern engineering practices, including testing, CI/CD, DevOps, observability, secure development, code quality, architecture reviews and production-readiness.
- Experience designing monitoring approaches, dashboards or evaluation mechanisms to understand the performance and behaviour of AI-enabled systems.
- Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical solutions.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
- Experience building complex systems, including writing MCP servers.
- Experience with spec-driven development and configuring coding-agents.
- Experience designing human-in-the-loop workflows, including review, escalation and feedback mechanisms for AI-supported decisions.
- Evidence of hands-on experimentation through personal projects, open-source contributions, prototypes or a relevant technical portfolio.
- Previous experience in a consulting environment managing client expectations and delivery timelines.
- A track record of identifying and capitalising on opportunities with clients.
What we offer:
- A competitive remuneration package where you’ll be rewarded for your individual and team performance.
- Support for flexible working and career development.
- Continuous learning: You’ll develop the mindset and skills to navigate whatever comes next.
