We are seeking a reliable and practical individual to join our team as a Yard Person / Delivery Driver in our Albourne Branch, based in West Sussex.
Role Purpose
Reporting to the service manager, this varied hands-on role combines yard duties, manual labour work and vehicle driving. You will play a key part in the presentation of the depot, as well as supporting the delivery and collection of machinery and/or parts within a defined geographic area.
Duties & Key Responsibilities
- Safely load and unload machinery using appropriate equipment and tie-down methods (Training can be provided).
- Drive various vehicles including a 3.5T flatbed van to collect/deliver goods to customers, following designated routes to ensure efficiency and punctuality.
- Carry out general ground’s maintenance such as mowing, strimmer and leaf blowing.
- Conduct vehicle inspections and perform basic maintenance checks to ensure safety standards are met.
- Support the stores team including relocation of stock from goods inwards areas to containers.
- Complete all delivery paperwork and maintain accurate records of trips and deliveries.
- Carry out basic assembly tasks such as building of wheelbarrows, etc.
- Assist customers with their purchases or repairs of horticultural machinery, providing a friendly professional service.
- Ensure all health and safety protocols are followed during transportation and handling of machinery.
- Carry out additional yard duties as instructed – such as painting, drain clearance, sweeping.
Requirements
- Full UK driving licence (clean or minimal points preferred).
- Trailer Towing Experience (Licence Entitlement preferred).
- Previous experience in a similar delivery or driving role.
- Good understanding of safe loading/unloading practices and securing of machinery.
- Physically fit and capable of handling machinery and performing manual labour tasks.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong communication and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work varying hours, including early starts or late finishes when long-distance trips are required.
- Experience in horticultural, agricultural, or construction sectors (desirable).
- Forklift Licence or any other relevant qualifications (desirable).
- Good geographical knowledge of East & West Sussex (desirable).
Additional Information
- Start Date: Immediate, but subject to replacement of existing role if successful.
- Hours: 39 hours per week: Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm, Friday 8am to 4pm (with an unpaid lunch break).
- Overtime paid at time and a half on completion of 39 hours Monday to Friday.
- Salary: Competitive, depending on experience.
