The Furnace Operator in the Amorphous Core Annealing department is responsible for operating and monitoring equipment used in the annealing process of amorphous cores. This role involves ensuring proper cycle preparation and execution while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate the furnace to anneal amorphous cores.
- Record furnace data and monitor temperature, atmosphere, and DC bus status throughout the process.
- Load cores onto racks, place thermocouples in cores, clean bus bar ends, assemble bus bars, and operate the furnace loader to ensure smooth production.
- Assist with moving pallets of plates and maintain consistent product placement.
- Use hand and power tools for assembly and maintenance tasks.
- Operate lifting equipment to move heavy materials safely.
- Maintain established quality and productivity levels.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, and any additional protective gear as specified.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Computer Skills: Basic proficiency in computer operations and data entry.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written form.
- Mathematical Skills: Competence in basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Reasoning Ability: Demonstrated ability to identify and define problems, analyze data, and draw accurate conclusions.
- Forklift Operation: Proficient in operating a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently; training will be provided for qualified candidates without prior certification.
- Attention to Detail: Commitment to quality and safety standards.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and listen attentively. Frequent activities include standing, walking, sitting, handling or feeling objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Occasional activities include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must regularly lift up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
This position involves frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, heat, and airborne particles. The noise level is typically loud, requiring appropriate hearing protection. Additional PPE may be required to protect against heat and airborne particles.
