ERM is the world’s largest pure play sustainability consultancy, helping shape a sustainable future with the world’s leading organizations. With over 8,000 consultants working in 140 countries, our clients receive best-in-class strategy and delivery support, enabled through subject matter expertise and a huge breadth of capability.
We are constantly innovating to find new ways to help our clients achieve their ambitions.
The expansion of our Strategic Communications offering into EMEA is one of our most exciting developments. Our team has a clearly defined purpose: to help businesses attain a market advantage through communications. Our ambition is to become the world’s most impactful sustainability communications firm, and we are looking to recruit new colleagues who share our passion and entrepreneurial spirit.
As part of the EMEA Communications Agency, you will join a small but growing UK-based unit connected to a 50‑strong US agency team and a wider global network of sustainability experts. Proud to have been recognised as an ‘Agency to Watch’ by PR Week, we operate much like a disruptive start‑up, with a mandate to set our own strategy and build our growth plan – but with the investment and enablement of a $1 billion ‘parent’.
Much of our work focuses on building evidence‑based sustainability narratives that can deliver market differentiation while also protecting and defending corporate reputation. High quality sustainability content creation, whether for thought leadership or impact reporting, is central to this. Our unique ability to translate complex data and information into engaging stories that help businesses drive awareness and engagement is highly‑valued. The content we produce must be free of greenwashing risk, and frequently align to regulatory disclosure requirements. This intersection of the technical and creative is what sets us apart in both communications and sustainability consultancy.
We are seeking a Consultant with experience in agency‑side communications, PR and/or marketing, with some understanding of sustainability. You will have at least 3 years’ professional experience and have a passion for high quality written communication. Ideally, you have led or contributed to the drafting of voluntary sustainability and impact reports.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Act as a core member of the EMEA Agency team, helping shape our culture, values, and identity. Be present, engaged and accountable for the delivery of our objectives.
Work across a varied portfolio of client accounts, managing delivery of strategic communications programmes spanning PR and marcomms, reputation management and sustainability reporting.
Take the lead on creating written content, long- or short‑form, to be used in multichannel communication with a range of audiences – including customers, investors and employees.
Act as content contributor or lead writer of sustainability reports, for clients across the EMEA region. We would anticipate you spending on average half of your time on sustainability report content development.
Manage media monitoring and social listening activities using tools such as Meltwater to identify emerging threats and provide timely updates to our clients.
Support colleagues through desk research and analysis to inform new business opportunities, contributing to proposals, presentations and client tasks as required.
Leverage your network and skills to promote our innovative agency offering, attending external events, co‑developing our own, developing your own thought leadership and helping build our reputation and business pipeline.
Required Experience And Attributes
Experience in contributing to multi‑channel communications programmes for clients in different sectors and geographies.
Experience in developing content on topics related to corporate social responsibility and/or climate change. Be able to demonstrate different forms of content you have created – such as social media, press releases, event marketing or thought leadership.
Experience of having contributed to the drafting of sustainability or impact reports. A desire to progress in the sustainability reporting field is vital as this will be a key part of your role.
Your ability to understand complex concepts and interpret data and specialist terminology into accessible content for non‑technical audiences is important.
Interest in corporate responsibility, sustainability and climate change – demonstrated through your personal interests, networks and media consumption.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling content.
Understanding of how to use media monitoring tools (such as Signal AI, Meltwater) and how ‘social listening’ and media insight can shape corporate and brand positioning, is preferred but not vital.
Good project management skills, a collaborative, proactive mindset, the ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team are all integral to success at ERM.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in communications, including some in an agency setting.
