ERM is seeking a motivated consultant to join our corporate sustainability and climate change team, focusing on supporting our Net Zero services. The risks associated with a changing climate are recognized as systemic to the global economy. There is increasing pressure from investors, regulators, customers, and society for businesses and governments to transition to a lower carbon economy. ERM is well-positioned to help our clients in both the finance and corporate sectors navigate this transition, from strategic advice to practical implementation.
It is an exciting time to join, as we respond to a growing demand from clients across sectors for services such as:
- Developing corporate GHG inventories (scope 1, 2, and 3) aligned with industry best practices, including portfolio GHG inventories for financial clients;
- Identifying technological and strategic GHG reduction opportunities in company operations and the value chain, and integrating these into strategic roadmaps for climate action;
- Advising on the appropriate use of offsets;
- Setting targets aligned with stakeholder expectations and the goals of the Paris Agreement;
- Supporting ongoing measurement, monitoring, and reporting of GHG inventories and progress against targets (e.g., CDP, SBTi, Corporate Reports);
- Acting as a trusted advisor on trends in GHG accounting, reporting, and target setting.
The team collaborates closely with ERMβs other practice areas, especially the climate change and corporate sustainability team. The successful candidate will also assist clients in areas such as sustainability strategy, transactional due diligence, EHS performance management, assurance, and risk management.
Primary Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Analyze and interpret technical information to understand and communicate its commercial implications;
- Manage client demands and handle time-sensitive requests;
- Manage projects and tasks, including preparing proposals;
- Build relationships with clients through supporting account management and project delivery.
The candidate will be accountable for meeting personal billability targets and other relevant goals.
Technical Knowledge Required
- A relevant technical degree in the environmental field;
- Experience in environmental consulting, climate change, or related roles;
- Understanding of the finance sector, including ESG and sustainability issues relevant to investment and lending sectors;
- Knowledge of GHG accounting and reporting principles, mechanisms, methodologies, and schemes, such as GHG Protocol, decarbonization, API Compendium, SBTi, EEIO, etc.;
- Ability to proactively identify and justify suitable methodologies internally and to clients;
- Knowledge of climate change and the transition to a low-carbon economy, including key regulatory, supervisory, and market drivers (e.g., net zero targets).
Technical Skills
- Experience managing small to mid-sized projects within larger initiatives;
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially advanced Excel skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
- Experience in business development and proposal writing;
- Strong numeracy skills and familiarity with large datasets;
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills;
- High-quality technical report writing and synthesis skills.
