ERM, the world's largest pure-play sustainability consultancy, is looking for a talented Stakeholder Manager in the Capital Project Delivery team of ERM. You’d sit at our Managing Consultant or Principal career level. Hybrid working is available from any of our UK offices, although you’ll be best connected with your team if based in Manchester, Bristol or London. This role includes working across a range of large complex projects within the renewables, extractives, technology, finance and transport sectors. You will sit in the Social Sustainability team which includes our stakeholder engagement and consultation services as well as social value and community investment, socio-economics, health, equalities, human rights and political risk advisory.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end programmes of stakeholder engagement and public consultation for major infrastructure projects—setting clear scope, managing budgets, and ensuring high-quality delivery throughout.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic guidance on stakeholder mapping, insight-driven engagement strategy and approaches, project messaging, and best-practice implementation.
  • Create compelling, accessible and visually engaging consultation materials, including public-facing communications, exhibition boards, summaries, and digital content that clearly articulate complex information.
  • Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams, coordinating input from project managers, EIA specialists, engineers, legal advisors, and planners to ensure alignment with consenting requirements, programme milestones, and wider project objectives.
  • Build strong, constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including local authorities, government bodies, statutory and non-statutory consultees, community groups, and the general public—helping to build trust and demonstrate transparency.
  • Lead business development efforts, including shaping persuasive proposals, delivering high-impact client presentations, and contributing to targeted marketing campaigns in collaboration with social sustainability colleagues.

Essential Skills

  • Knowledge and experience of UK planning regimes e.g. DCO, TCPA, Section 36
  • Experience of UK infrastructure projects
  • Solid stakeholder experience.
  • Experience on DCO project applications (desirable)
  • Strong consultancy experience
  • Research, analytical and inter-personal skills with diligent attention to detail
  • Strong project management skills including scopes of work and budgets
  • Experience planning and delivering engagement activities (e.g. public consultations, exhibitions, workshops, meetings)
  • Comfortable and confident engaging with all types of stakeholders, including clients and communities
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
