Overview

As Transport Director, you will lead ERM’s Transport & Access capability within renewables and major infrastructure, shaping transport strategy, risk management and delivery for onshore/offshore wind, grid projects, hydrogen, and storage initiatives. You’ll guide multidisciplinary teams through feasibility, planning consent, and construction phases, and act as an expert witness when needed. You will drive client relationships and business development, elevating transport and access services across the renewables portfolio. This role offers impact by enabling efficient, compliant, and safe transport solutions at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical authority for transport and access across renewables and infrastructure projects
  • Lead preparation and quality review of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Construction Traffic Management Plans, Construction Environmental Management Plans, Abnormal Load Route Assessments, Turbine Delivery Route Studies, EIA transport chapters, DCO/Section 36 transport submissions
  • Provide strategic advice on transport constraints, access feasibility and consenting risks during development and investment decisions; act as Expert Witness when required
  • Lead transport inputs for onshore/offshore wind, solar, BESS, hydrogen and transmission projects; oversee blade transport feasibility and routing, port-to-site logistics, clearance assessments, and third‑party land/bridges considerations
  • Oversee swept path analyses and routing using Autodesk Vehicle Tracking and AutoTrack; develop routing solutions for large blades and abnormal loads; critique route geometry and site access for feasibility and mitigation
  • Drive best-practice roadmaps for turbine delivery route modelling and logistics planning
  • Lead business development across renewables clients; build relationships, develop transport offering, lead major proposals and cross-sell services
  • Build and lead a high-performing Transport & Access team; mentor engineers; establish standards, QA processes and promote innovation and digital solutions

Key requirements

  • Experience delivering transport and infrastructure consultancy
  • Significant renewables development experience, especially wind
  • Strong knowledge of UK/Ireland planning and consenting regimes; extensive EIAs, DCOs and major infrastructure planning experience
  • Proven ability to deliver or review Turbine Delivery Route, Abnormal Load Route Assessments, Swept Path Analysis, CTMPs
  • Track record of winning and delivering major consultancy projects
  • Expert knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets, Transport Assessment guidance, and best practices in renewable energy transport
  • Advanced capability in Autodesk Vehicle Tracking, AutoTrack, AutoCAD, GIS
  • Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or related; Chartered status (CIHT/ICE)
  • Postgraduate qualification desirable
  • Stakeholder engagement with highways authorities, police escorts and hauliers
