Are you an experienced engineering professional ready to lead a high performing team at the forefront of Gas Turbine (GT) Propulsion technology? Belcan are looking for a Design Team Leader who brings technical excellence, strong leadership, and a passion for delivering high quality engineering solutions to join the team in the Derby office.
As a Design Team Leader, you will be the direct supervisor of a team of skilled engineers, guiding them through technical challenges and driving engineering delivery to the highest standards. This role blends deep technical expertise with hands on leadership, ensuring both technical governance and smooth project execution. You’ll play a key role in shaping engineering quality, supporting your team through mentoring and technical oversight, and stepping in to resolve complex, escalated issues when needed. This position sits within the Gas Turbine (GT) Propulsion business unit, where you’ll work in a fast-paced Engineering Services environment. You’ll balance technical responsibilities with commercial awareness and project timelines, supporting efficient, high-quality delivery. You will create, update and maintain designs.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of engineers within GT Propulsion design.
- Provide technical governance, ensuring policy, process, and best practices are consistently applied.
- Deliver engineering studies, reports, designs, and reviews with a focus on quality and efficiency.
- Support escalated problem resolution and guide the team through complex technical challenges.
- Ensure alignment between engineering output, commercial objectives, and project schedules.
- Work independently while fostering development and technical growth within the team.
Qualifications And Experience
- Degree qualification in Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering or applicable work experience in turbomachinery design.
- Previous Gas Turbine Systems and Turbomachinery Aero Design experience.
- Design for Manufacture (DFM).
- Preparation and review of engineering studies, reports, and presentations.
- Prior experience leading engineering teams (formal or informal).
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be able to work with customers to define and document requirements, address technical concerns and provide project status.
