Join our growing team and play a key role in delivering essential water infrastructure projects across the North West. We're looking for a practical, safety‑conscious Working Mechanical Supervisor with experience in pumping systems and mechanical installations who enjoys leading from the front and delivering high‑quality work in challenging site environments.

Our ideal candidate will have strong experience working with pumping systems and mechanical installations within the water or utilities sector. You will be a hands‑on supervisor who is comfortable working as part of a mobile team across multiple sites throughout the North West.

As this is a site‑based role, flexibility is essential. The successful candidate must be willing to travel between sites and participate in out‑of‑hours and emergency works when required.

What You’ll Do

  • Supervise direct labour and subcontractors, ensuring safe, high‑quality, and efficient delivery.
  • Lead site safety activities including inductions, toolbox talks, permits, and point‑of‑work briefings.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM 2015, confined space requirements, WIMES standards, and company and our client procedures.
  • Supervise mechanical installation works including pumps, pipework, valves, screens, mixers, blowers, kiosks, and associated equipment.
  • Manage and coordinate direct labour and subcontractors to achieve programme and quality targets.
  • Conduct inspections, identify defects, and support commissioning activities including FAT/SAT and system testing.
  • Maintain accurate site records, progress reports, permits, and as‑built documentation.
  • Liaise with project teams, clients, designers, and other disciplines to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Undertake routine maintenance of mechanical equipment in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule.

  • Proven experience supervising multi‑disciplinary teams within the water industry

Technical Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, pipework, valves, screens, mixers, blowers, chemical dosing, and refurbishment works.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of lifting operations and temporary works/shoring principles.
  • Understanding of electrical interfaces, including MCCs, isolations, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with water company standards and procedures (e.g., United Utilities).
