We are seeking a talented and motivated Bid Writer to join our successful and growing work-winning team. In this key role, you will produce high-quality, compelling bid content that clearly articulates developed win themes and supports the submission of outstanding tenders across public and private civil engineering sectors. You will lead the coordination and preparation of PQQ and tender submissions, acting as Bid Lead for smaller tenders ensuring responses are well planned, compliant, persuasive and submitted on time. Working closely with colleagues, technical specialists and the Preconstruction team, you will research, develop and write content for bids, presentations and marketing materials, while helping manage multiple short-duration tenders efficiently. This is a time-critical, business-focused role, with content closely aligned to the social value ambitions of our Charitable Trust-owned Group.
What You’ll Do
- Act as Bid Lead for allocated tenders, managing the process from opportunity approval to submission.
- Responsibilities include:
- Producing a bid programme and submission plan
- Organising bid kick-off meetings
- Allocating responsibilities for bid inputs
- Coordinating contributions from estimators, planners and operational staff
- Tracking progress against deadlines
- Managing tender clarifications
- Ensuring compliance with client requirements
- Assembling and submitting final tender documentation
- Write clear, persuasive responses to PQQs, tenders and framework submissions
- Translate technical information into structured, client-focused responses
- Develop methodology responses, project approaches and value proposals
- Review and improve contributions from technical team members
- Edit and proofread submissions to ensure clarity and consistency
- Ensure responses align with identified win themes
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in bid writing with strong ability to produce clear, compelling content.
- Background in coordinating PQQ and tender submissions, ideally within construction or civil engineering (desirable but not essential).
- Ability to analyse tender questions, scoring criteria and client requirements to shape strong responses.
- Skilled at extracting technical information from subject matter experts and translating it into high-quality written content.
- Excellent written communication, editing and proofreading skills.
- Strong organisational capability with the ability to prioritise multiple concurrent tenders and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Experience with document design tools such as InDesign (beneficial but not essential).
- Highly organised and proactive, self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership.
- Confident communicator with internal stakeholders.
