EMP Medical Practice, on behalf of Central and West Warrington Primary Care Network (CWWPCN) is hostingan exciting project delivering clinical research in primary care. Working withthe 7 GP Practices of this PCN, we will deliver clinical research studies alongsidehigh quality clinical care over 22.5 hours per week

We are looking for you if you are a Registered nurse, havean enthusiasm for clinical research, great organiser, can work independentlyYou will deliver a variety of primary care focussed trials and supportvision of a research PCN programme. Experience desires in primary care andresearch but not essential as training will be given. This may include additional clinical skills such as Cytology and Immunisations. You will be supported bya well-established research team based within the PCN

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the delivery of basic practice nursing services care to contribute to the planning, conduct and reporting of clinical trials conducted within the PCN Practices.

You will be responsible for day to day management of patient recruitment into clinical research studies.

You will be able to work on a daily basis with minimal supervision as part of the Research team and in collaboration with the Lead Research Clinician.

You will ensure all clinical research activity for the PCN is ICH and GCP compliant and conducted in accordance with agreed protocols.

You will also liaise with sponsor companies and multi-disciplinary research teams.

Causeway Medical Centre, Dallam Lane Surgery, Eric Moore Partnership Medical Practice, Folly Lane Medical Centre, Helsby Street Surgery, Penketh Health Centre and Westbrook Medical Practice.

This post, as with other PCN clinical posts already in place, will be one that provides Clinical Research Nursing to these 7 Practice sites, hosted by EMP Medical Practice

Job responsibilities

Clinical practice·All clinical practice activity relates toassisting the PCN as required in line with achieving IIF targets and inrelation to managing long term conditions as defined by clinical researchprojects

• Assess, plan, develop, implementand evaluate programmes to promote health and well-being, and preventadverse effects on health and well-being
• Implement and evaluate individualtreatment plans for patients with a known long-term condition
• Identify, and manage asappropriate, treatment plans for patients at risk of developing along-term condition
• Prioritise health problems andintervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent oremergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care
• Support patients to adopt healthpromotion strategies that encourage patients to live healthily, and applyprinciples of self-care
• Deliver opportunistic healthpromotion using opportunities such as new-patient medicals
• Support patients to adopt healthpromotion strategies that promote patients to live healthily, andencourage principles of self-care
• Support and advise women requestinginformation relating to family planning needs
• Support and manage health needs ofwomen presenting for cervical cytology consultations
• Recognise, assess and refer patientspresenting with mental health needs in accordance with the NationalFramework (NSF) for Mental Health

ClinicalResearch

• To assist the clinicians across thePCN practices in the assessment of patients/volunteers for eligibility forresearch and monitoring of their condition throughout their participation.
• To provide ongoing advice andinformation to patients/volunteers with regard to their participation inclinical research in order to facilitate effective informed consent.

·Toassist the clinicians to report and record any adverse events as dictated byprotocol and local protocols.

·To co-ordinate and carry out patient visits inaccordance with study protocols, including co-ordinating special tests in otherdepartments, collection of data, coding, data entry and patient support

·To carry out consent, treatment procedures and treatmentinterventions according to pre-determined protocols, including venepuncture,venous cannulation, administering of intra-venous drugs and vital signrecording

·Toreport on a regular basis to the Nurse advisor and Research Network staff across network for professional support and guidance.

·To ensure that all clinical research activity is ICH GCP compliant and conducted in accordance withthe agreed protocols

·To ensure that all data is collected and managedeffectively and accurately within timelines

·To carry out the collection, processing and shipping ofbiological specimens according to protocol requirements and follow upappropriately on alert values

·To be involved in the education of patients and theirvarious aspects of their disease

·To ensure that patient safety is paramount in allprocedures that take place for trial purposes

·Toensure clinical and research documentation and record keeping is completedaccurately and efficiently in accordance with the EU Directive, ICH GCP Guidelines.

Communication

• Utilise and demonstrate sensitivecommunication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent totreatment
• Communicate with and supportpatients who are receiving ‘bad news’
• Communicate effectively withpatients and carers, recognising the need for alternative methods ofcommunication to overcome different levels of understanding, culturalbackground and preferred ways of communicating

Experience

• Understanding and experience of roles and responsibilities of clinical research nurse
• Clinical Skills – venepuncture, IV cannulation
• Change management skills and ability to support patients to change lifestyle
• Communication skills, both written and verbal
• Negotiation and conflict management skills
• Knowledge of GP Practice clinical system (TPP SystmOne)
• Knowledge of Clinical Research recording systems
• Experience of working in primary care/ GP Practice
