We welcome applications from both new and experienced General Practitioners to join our friendly, innovative, expanding large GP Practice and to manage a busy and interesting clinical caseload. Our multi-skilled clinical team of GPs, ANPs, and full complement of other healthcare professionals and A&C staff all work together to provide high quality, accessible primary care services to our patient population. We have a supportive and experienced clinical team, and all are given opportunity to shape enhanced patient access services, with all personnel working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
We are a Learning Environment with ST1, ST2 and FY Doctor placements supported by our Trainer GPs and we offer placements to nursing students and other student healthcare professionals. Our “CarePlus” Primary Care Offer at our Practice includes:
- Primary healthcare to multiple local Mental Health Units
- Primary healthcare to Homeless population with our Outreach Service
- Cancer Care with inhouse Cancer Care Nurse supporting our patients
- Accredited Clinical Research in primary care facility and participates in multiple clinical research projects
- Well‑established and engaging Patient Participation Group.
The Practice is a member of a successful and experienced large PCN – Central & West Warrington, working with 6 other local GP Practices. Our Practice leads on the Enhanced Access service for the PCN.
Main duties of the job
This post is for up to 6 clinical sessions per week. The successful candidate will deliver high quality GP care, supporting urgent and same‑day and routine patient access. The successful candidate will contribute to continuity and quality of care.
TPP/S1 Clinical System: The Practice offers a successful Total Triage model with highly positive results for Patient Access. One weekly session would be required to be held on Wednesday for our weekday evening PCN's Enhanced Access service (6.30pm-8pm). The Practice is happy to discuss specific working patterns to suit the preferred candidate and the Practice.
The post‑holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care including surgery and telephone/video consultations and queries, home visits, partaking in the Duty Dr rota (supported by a daily Duty ANP); patient and Practice administration (IT enabled and streamlined processes), paperwork and correspondence in a timely manner. Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation. Our Practice is rated Outstanding by CQC and we pride ourselves on continuing to enhance further and deliver excellence in primary care to our patient population. Our focus and ethos is on providing high quality, accessible and friendly primary healthcare in a welcoming environment for all patients and staff. Our Practice is based close to Warrington town centre, and from two dual sites of the Medi Centre and Orford Park premises. The Medi Centre opened as a purpose built health centre in late 2016; our occupancy in Orford Park is part of a larger Health and Leisure facility which opened in 2012.
We are a multi‑disciplinary team of 5 GPs, 3 ANPs, 3 Practice Nurses, 1 Clinical Research Nurse, 1 Physician Associate, 2 Clinical Pharmacists, 2 Health Care Assistants, 3 GP Assistants, 2 Student Nursing Associates with a full complement of Management and Administrative personnel to support the clinical team and the patients. In addition we employ PCN ARRS healthcare professionals and administration personnel which further supports the overall primary care service provided to our patients.
Flexible working hours to suit the Practice and the individual. 6 weeks Annual Leave and 1 week of Study Leave (pro-rata) Healthshield Plan Supported PDP including regular monthly in‑house educational sessions and external events for Protected Learning Time Weekly Practice Meetings. We are a Tier 2 Sponsor and able to accept applications from candidates who require this support.
Job responsibilities
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Provide Personal Medical Services to acceptable clinical standards to patients, both in surgery and on home visits.
- Respond to medical problems presented by patients on the medical list, including history taking, examination, diagnosis, investigation, treatment, referral where appropriate and adequate documentation with READ coding onto the GP Computer system (TPP/S1).
- Provide appropriate health promotion and preventative health care and advice to the Practice patients attending the Practice within the context of primary health care.
- Attend all team meetings and other meetings as may be necessary for PMS duties.
- Carry out clinically related administrative and non‑clinical duties needed for the delivery of personal medical services.
- Provide free certification in line with Schedule 9 of NHS GMS Regulations (1992).
- Provide emergency cover for absent colleagues from time to time as detailed.
- Maintain patient clinical records in line with the electronic patient record system.
Duties within Practice:
You would be expected to perform two surgeries of up to 2.5-3 hours duration in a day with combination of face to face and video/telephone appointments. You would be required to be available to the Practice between the core hours of 08:00 to 18:30 hrs. Participate in the Duty Dr rota, undertaking Total Triage with the support of the full clinical team. If Duty Dr, to triage home visits (usually then directed to our PCN's Acute Visiting Service) but with some GP visits when required and undertake the same. Sign all relevant prescriptions and deal with Patient and Practice correspondence on a daily basis. Deal with all clinical roles within the Practice as undertaken by your clinical colleagues as required. Participation in the Practice on‑call (Duty Dr) arrangements. Take responsibility of acquiring the Practice's QUOF, Enhanced Services and any other contractual targets. Participate in the Enhanced Access scheme (a requirement to undertake the Wednesday session from 6:30pm-8pm). Additional sessions can be available for additional remuneration.
Professional Practice
Ensure services are provided to a high quality and that they are of a consistent standard to meet the identified needs of service users. Comply with all clinical governance requirements as they relate to continuous improvement in quality and organisational performance, including appraisal. Continually update personal professional knowledge and competence by undergoing continuing professional development and lifelong learning, and mentoring. In collaboration with members of the team cascade acquired knowledge, learning and expertise in order to enhance skills and competencies of other clinicians.
Professional Leadership
Identify best practice and disseminate accordingly, for example through benchmarking, clinical guidelines and research evidence. Develop new roles and responsibilities when the need arises and reflect and respond to the demands of the service. Liaise with relevant agencies and the local community to promote knowledge and awareness of the services provided. Adopt a positive approach to change and provide a clinical perspective on service development and configuration issues. In addition generate proposals for the continuous development of the service.
Education Training and Development
As required provide supervision and mentoring opportunities for staff together with the Practice Manager and other Clinical staff. Develop new roles and responsibilities when the need arises which reflect and respond to the demands of the service. Identify ways of engaging service users in service developments. Develop strategies to meet objectives as they relate to the services provided by the practice, together with the Principal and the Practice Manager. Develop links with educational providers so as to provide a learning environment.
Service Development Linked to Research and Evaluation
In collaboration with key stakeholders participate in evaluation of the service through a process of audit and research activity. Participate in the production of regular performance monitoring reports as required. Develop and implement policies and procedures, clinical guidelines and protocols as required. Develop and maintain effective working relationships across the broad spectrum of health and social care providers, service users and voluntary agencies. Utilising the latest evidence, shape and organise services to reflect the needs of service users and in response to local and national priorities and policy directives.
Human Resources

Health and Safety Responsibilities
Provide safe and well‑maintained equipment. This provision must also ensure that safe systems of work are in place. Make arrangements for the safe handling, storage and transportation of any articles or substances that are being used on the premises. Provide and distribute any relevant information to all staff on matters affecting their Health and Safety, in addition, provide adequate supervision and training for persons employed by the Practice. Maintain a safe place to work with the provision for safe access to and from premises at all times.
