ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Senior Pet Underwriter leads the development and execution of underwriting strategies to ensure profitability in line with contractual commitments to capacity providers. The Senior Pet Underwriter acts as a senior technical authority across the underwriting lifecycle, working in close collaboration with underwriting, pricing, and product teams to enhance performance, share insights, and embed best practices.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Direct periodic reviews of policy limits and recommend data-led adjustments to balance loss ratio targets with competitive positioning.
- Oversee exclusion strategies in line with claims experience and regulatory trends.
- Provide senior input on footprint segmentation; assess exposures and make recommendations to calibrate portfolio risk.
- Monitor competitive landscape and market innovations; identify opportunities to enhance underwriting effectiveness and product delivery.
- Review impact of decline rules in the context of macroeconomic shifts, proposing timely updates to remain aligned with risk appetite and pricing strength.
- Engage with key stakeholders to design bespoke underwriting solutions and clearly articulate outcomes, rationale, and implications.
- Partner with product teams to ensure technical accuracy and value alignment across policy wordings.
- Support and mentor junior underwriters, embedding knowledge-sharing, consistency, and professional development.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Extensive experience in underwriting within pet specialty lines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead underwriting initiatives and support change.
- Strong technical capability across footprint management, exclusions, and limit-setting.
- Proficient with Microsoft tools including Excel and PowerPoint; comfortable interpreting large data sets to inform decisions.
- Expert-level understanding of underwriting best practice.
- Ability to translate data insights into strategic underwriting decisions
- Familiarity with governance, risk and capacity considerations.
