An opportunity has arisen for Refuse Driver/Loaders to join Erewash Borough Council’s Waste and Recycling Services team within the Environmental and Community Services Directorate. The team is responsible for providing a high-quality refuse/recycling service to customers and ensuring controlled waste is collected in line with the Council’s duty under the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

What you will be doing:

You will be working closely and collaboratively with your colleagues to deliver results that have a positive impact on residents living in the Borough. The main duties involve:

  • Driving the refuse/recycling lorry whilst observing health and safety requirements and minimising inconvenience to the public.

  • Collecting waste contained in wheeled bins or waste contained in the Council’s green recycling bags which contain dry recyclable materials.

  • Delivering or collecting wheeled bins.

  • Collecting and disposing of clinical waste.

You will hold a full HGV Class 2 driving licence and have experience of working in a customer-orientated environment. Ideally, you will have experience of refuse and recycling collection systems, but this is not essential. The ability to work well as part of a team, and experience of using your own initiative are also essential requirements of the role as you may be required to work alone at times. This is a physically demanding role in which you may be required to walk long distances in all weather conditions. You should therefore possess a reasonable level of fitness and have physical health conducive to driving an HGV and moving full wheeled bins.
